Robert D. Kuhls, of Platteville died on Friday, October 30, 2009 at Southwest Health Center Hospital in Platteville. He was 83 years old.
He was born on May 12, 1926 in Platteville, a son of the late Harry D. and Nora (Kamps) Kuhls. He was united in marriage to Lois Driscoll on June 12, 1948 at the Benton Primitive Methodist Church in Benton. She preceded him in death on July 1, 1997.
Mr. Kuhls was a member of the U.S. Army Air Force where he served as an airplane mechanic.
He farmed for nine years near Benton before moving to the family farm south of Platteville in Smelser Township in 1959. He milked Holstein cows and raised beef cattle and hybrid hogs for himself and for other farmers. In 1992 he received the Century Farm award. He also sold Kidmans Feed.
Mr. Kuhls was a member of the Lutheran Church of Peace and an honorary FFA member at Platteville High School. He liked cars, especially General Motors.
Mr. Kuhls is survived by three children, Linda (Walker) Calvert of Livingston, Cindy (Tony Koss) Kuhls of Antigo, and Eric (Lisa) Kuhls of Platteville; two grandsons, Cory Calvert of Waterloo, and Benjamin Kuhls of Platteville; three brothers, Donald Kuhls of Platteville, Richard (Geraldine) Kuhls of Platteville, and Francis (Donna) Kuhls of Stevens Point; a sister, Marion (Delbert) Dailey of Cuba City; two sisters-in-law, June Kuhls of Platteville, and Nancy (Pat) Murray of Cuba City; special cousins, Roger and Sally Gorges of Calamine; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Harold James Kuhls, and a sister-in-law, Betty Kuhls.
Funeral services were held at the Lutheran Church of Peace in Platteville with Rev. Jeff Pedersen officiating. Chapel military rites were conducted by American Legion Post #42 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5274. Burial was at Hillside Cemetery in Platteville.
Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Church of Peace or to the American Heart Association.
The Melby-Bendorf Funeral Home & Crematory assisted the family.
