Leona Baker

Leona Marion (LaRue) Baker, a longtime Washington resident, died Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, at Harrison Hospital in Bremerton, Wash.

She was born March 24, 1933 in Wenatchee, Wash., a daughter of Harry and Francis (Conley) LaRue.

She married Paul Eugene Baker in 1950 where he was an accountant for Alcoa and she was a homemaker.

The couple raised two sons, Paul and Philip, and provided a home to many foster children.  They also spent many years living in San Mateo, Calif., where she worked for Denny’s Restaurant on Norfolk as a waitress.

Mrs. Baker also resided for some time in Poulsbo, Wash., finally settling in Port Orchard.

She spent the last few years visiting with friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

She is survived by two sons, Paul S. (Helen) Baker of Redwood City, Calif., and Philip (Dawn) Baker of Port Orchard, Wash.; three grandsons, Brian (Lauren) Baker of San Mateo, Calif., Mark and Casey Baker of Port Orchard, Wash., and a brother, Marvin (Rae) LaRue of Thermal, Calif., many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.

A private memorial celebration will be held at a later date.

Haven of Rest Funeral Home in Gig Harbor is handling arrangements.
